“W-Nikaimachi Festa” in two shopping districts

Nikaimachi Shopping Street and Nishi-Nikaimachi Shopping Street, which extend from east to west in the center of Himeji. It has been popular as the most historic shopping street in Himeji city. On Feb 15 and Mar 15, W-Nikaimachi Festa will be held.
Every month of 15th at 12:00 and 14:00 at Nikaimachi Shopping Street, on the east side of Otemae-dori, the event “Harenohi Nikaimachi” is held. The day is in conjunction with the day of worshiping “Harimano-kuni Sosha Shrine”. When auspicious ball named Kusudama established in shopping districts are opened twice at 11:00 and 14:00. And various kind of presents are flying on heads of people waiting.
Every month of third Wednesday at Nishi-Nikaimachi Shopping Street, on the west side of Otemae-dori, one coin Rakugo festival of “Shichifuku Yose” is held. On this day, when you bring an admission ticket to a member store, you can receive various services.

Bean-Throwing Festival in Sosya Shrine

From 15:00 on February 3 every year, Bean-Throwing Festival is held at Harimanokuni Sosya Shrine. Bean-Throwing is a ritual ceremony in Japan. The throwing of roasted beans mean
to exorcise demons and ogres bringing epidemic and misfortune, and bring happiness inside. It is held not only at shrines and temples but also at home. Many people gathered in Harimanokuni Sosya Shrine on that day, people compete for beans and rice cakes with bags. In Japan, it is said that if you eat beans as much as your age, you can live healthily and happily for a year.

Autumn Festival around Himeji Castle -2 “Shimotsuki Festival at Harima-no-kuni Sosha”

During November 13 to 16, Shimotsuki Festival will be held at Harima-no-kuni Sosha, 10-minute walk from Himeji Castle. It is the finale of autumn festival in Harima area. The main event is “Mikoshi no Togyo”, Big size of portable shrines and 6 small shrines which is pulled over by children scattered around the town. And this year of 2016, the big one will be in front of Himeji Castle. Shimotsuki Festival is not a violent style such as those found in other parts of Himeji area. They caught it comparably calm atmosphere, that have left heavily medieval festival of Japan.

One of the most famous women in Himeji Castle, “Senhime-sama” gorgeously appeared on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays in October and November at Himeji Castle. You can take pictures with the princess in kimono form.
400 years ago from now the woman named Sen, who was the daughter of the general at the time, began living at Himeji Castle. In the era when Japan was in a civil war, she spends a dramatic girlhood. After the last war ended, she was said to be happily living in Himeji Castle after being connected with a wonderful young man.

More potteries gathered from the 33 production area in Japan. In addition to the exhibition sales corner where you can purchase for reasonable price, the pottery experience corner using hand-powered “Rokuro” (throw) and the corner where you can make simple painting on unglazed pottery. Autumn Festival around Himeji Castle -1 “Jyunisyo Shrine’s Autumn Festival”

In the autumn of Himeji, many festivals are held in various locations of the suburbs. Most of them are appreciated the harvest of autumn to God. The festival is held more than 100 shrines. Many shops are there and the Mikoshi (portable shrine) will Jyunko (cruise) around the town.
“Jyunisyo Shrine’s Autumn Festival” is one of the autumn festival in Himeji. It will be held at Jyunisyo Shrine, approximately a 10-minute walk to the west of Himeji Station, in Oct. 8[Sat] and 9[Sun] this year. In the evening of Oct. 8, children will enter the stage with 12 groups of Mikoshi. In the morning of Oct. 9, they will Jyunko the groups of Mikoshi around the town. Then noon, they will gather to the shrine. It is not a kind of glamorous festival, but you should enjoy the warm atmosphere that has been handed down in the area. And more, the shrine is also famous for Okiku’s as ghost of “Banshu Sara Yashiki”. “Okiikujinja” is in there.

At October, many Autumn festivals are held in Himeji-Harima area. Originally, because of the conservative point of view, these kind of festival is not for foreign tourist. However in recent years, it has been increased that will welcome. Following is also easy to visit.
In Shikama, about 4 km south from Himeji Station, there are “Ebisu Miya Tenma Shrine” and “Hamanomiya Tenmangu”. These two shrines held Autumn Festival. Mostly around 9:30 of Oct 9[Sun] is recommended. Because 8 kinds of Yatai will get together at Shikama Station (Sanyo Railways) and stalling toward Ebisu Miya Tenma Shrine. You can reach the shrine easily with them.
“Daiba Neri”, only chosen men give right to stall (Otokoshu-guys) more than 1 tons of Yatai, is one of the best attractions. Their act of heavy stalling are must-see. But, don’t too close to the act. It is strictly forbidden to interfere with the progress of the stalls. Please be sure that you fully understand that the stalls are those sacred. In addition, because of very busy days, you can’t go there by car or taxi. And that, Otokoshu-guys are dressed only in underwear. Do not forget about it.

Himeji Yukata Festival

“Himeji Yukata Festival” will be carried out for 3 days of 22 – 24 June in Himeji. Hundreds of night market is gathered from all over the area, everyone wearing Yukata and enjoy a stroll. Originally, Yukata is a nightgown, not for going out. Once upon a time, when the lord had built the Osakabe shrine in Tatemachi, because it was too steep and no time for people wearing Kimono, the load encouraged them to wear Yukata. Then this festival was said to be born… You will have fun to find delicious food and surprising night market during this festival. You must check the shops people lined up! There is also the Yukata rent-a-lease shop. You also dressed in Yukata and why not enjoy this festival!
